Watchtower at Sunndbury

My third Brettonian style tower. The tower itself is constructed from a 3-1/2 inch cardboard tube, wrapped in Plastruct brick pattern styrene. The roof is individually cut styrene shingles from a "for sale" sign, glued onto a roof from a Zvezda round tower kit. The turret atop the tower, and the stairs are carved from blue foam. The door is scratchbuilt from balsa, styrene, and foam. The pikes are from the GW Brettonian archer box set. All landscape is carved blue foam, and Woodland Scenics flock. The coachlights on the door and the stairway are working, l.e.d. mini christmas lights, with a hollow bead from the craft store over top of it. The concept was for a more defendable tower, but not quite a fortress, more a border outpost. Both the stairway on the tower, and the hill leave the defenders right arms clear to swing, while obstructing the attackers. On the tight side is a natural wall, with stacked boulders for an added obstacle. On the left side, a man made wall cut out of the hill, with pikes to deter would be attackers. The pikes aren't so much to impale attackers, but to chanell them to the stairs, where the tower defenders could focus their defense. I would have taken the pictures outside, but the temperature has been below zero all week, and I doubt how well my camera would hold up! I hope you enjoy the pictures, and comments are certainly welcome.

I appreciate the comments for sure. I've only had bad results with making tall grass, but I guess thats really no reason to shy away from it. I'll certainl take your advice into account. thanks again.

Very nice piece again Theomar- I would add some more weathering to the stonework on the main part of the tower to help break up the uniformity of the brickwork; some vertical stains running from the bulged area just below the crenels, run-off from the roof and so forth. Its the only real drawback of the various brick patterns is that it's hard to disguise their regularity. Maybe re-model the crenels themselves also as the stone size seems a bit at-odds with the rest of the tower brickwork. Other than that a few stains on the rock faces, moss, lichen effects and then add some more depth to the groundwork - it's very good as it is but adding some varied-height grasses would help give it a bit more depth/realism: a bit of long grass on the path edges and around the base of the tower- oh and the edge of the path of the straight steps: 2nd image: is too linear, rough it up to disguise the cut into the blue-foam base. Seems like I picked it apart but its very good, they're all small bits to pick up on.
