First Selfmade Tree

This tree was my first "sculpting experiment" and i really like it. The main reason for making it was the wish to have good looking and realistic downscaled terrain. (correct english btw.?) The nightgoblin beneath the tree is to show off the scale. When the Goblin measures 1,50 metres the tree measures approximately 12 metres (still one of the smaller trees!) I made a scaffold out of various wires. ranging from 2mm thick wire to form the trunk to nealed wire for the branches. Then the "wire trunk" was covered with air-drying modelling clay that i found at a local hardware store (Eberhard Faber Efa Plast Classic). (It was not expensive, but it's no good quality for making trees, but quite useful for other terrain pieces, I'm still testing different modelling clays.) After basing and painting the trunk i wrapped wool around the branches to create the treetop. The treetop then was covered with spray glue (correct word?) to fix it and to hold the foliage. I used thin foliage which looks quite real . Finally the treetop was covered with a mix of satin varnish and spray glue. On the next trees I'll add some variations to the process and I will take more time to give more and better details to the tree! The above tree is not very expensive, except the foliage. The other things can be aquired in hardware stores or handicraft stores and most of them have moderate prices! ONE LAST THING: A CREDIT GOES TO WAPPELLIOUS WHO MADE THIS ADORABLE ELVEN SENTRY POST, WHICH YOU CAN FIND IN THE ARTICLE SECTION http://www.coolminiornot.com/article/aid/298 IT IS A GOOD HELP TO MAKE MARVELLOUS TREES (which i am trying now)!!!

This is excellent for a first attempt - most people don't appreciate just how hard trees are to make *realistic* until they make their own. The base and root system are good and the trunk could use a bit more detail - the main issue with the foliage is that it needs to be broken up into more parts, so it looks less like one big clump. But, heck, yeah, seen a LOT lot worse and for a first shot its very good indeed.
