Dwarf Cannon

This must be one of the scariest things I've ever done! My first ever CMoN image, so be gentle ;) (Well, to be honest it's my second, but the first was only a minute or two ago) I'm working on the theory that the best way to improve my painting is to share it. This should in theory make me look at it more closely, get some useful crits from you folks, and to be humiliated into trying harder :D This little set of three Cannon-Crew and their cannon is one of the "special" units I've tackled. The room for improvement is still huge, but I'm quite pleased with it :) The base was actually made a bit more recently out of a cobble-stone, and topped in the same way as I base all my figures. (The men aren't great, hence no close-up ;) It's pretty crude by the awsome standards set by so many here, but I hope some of you like it (or hate it) enough to pop a vote or comment on the way past. http://www.cylindric.net/gallery2/v/miniatures/

Hey! don't be so shy, this is a site for every minis, the best painters here are normal human beings, like you and me ( Exept for the god-like skills...). I have painted and posted much worst stuff myself. From this 'crude' start it's only a matter of more attention, patience, thinner paints and a few notions before you can do great stuff. Now, for pointers, like DR said, cannon looks good as is, but desperately needs darklining ,to separate the pieces, and shading. Right now it looks like a 1" piece of finely chiseled metal, not a 4' machine of destruction as it should be. There are great articles for metal here, in the article section.

Welcome to Cooliminiornot. I saw your Hello in the forums and thought I'd pop over to your gallery. This isn't a"bad " piece of work and does show that you have good brush control. (An Important factor if you want to improve.) Although the Cannon Barrel still shows the join line this is an easily cured thing. A gentle application of 400 grit wet and dry paper folded over and rubbed across the join will remove these marks for future pieces. It looks as if you're drybrushed the cannon, which in itself is a worthwhile technique but to get a mush better effect try thin coats of metalic paints and then washes and glazes of colours to alter the shading. Remember that on a cylinder like a cannon the Shadows will grow deeper the closer the curve gets to the ground. I hope that these comments will help and keep posting pictures and works in the Works In progreess forum, People will be more than willing to give you pointers. :D
