Thin your paints a bit more. You are on the right track, but put a layer of color between the base and the highlight. (3 layers) -it will help avoid the chalky look you get when you jump too light - especially like on the face. (finally, put a bit of putty on the base and hide the slota.
Fizl, thank you for the compliment and the advice- Yep, that leg just got plain missed by my brush! :-) I'm a touched embarassed I missed something so obvious. Guess I get to go back and paint just a little more B&W
