Ral Partha Steam Golem

This is my fourth mini ever. It seems to be plagued with "dragon spit". This was for my friends campaign where there are all the constructs and such made out of this really hard gold alloy, and powered by steam. So this mini was a no brainer. This was the first mini I did that required assembly, so I stared at all those little pieces for awhile trying to figure out how they make a mini, but I like the way his pose came out. Running and about to smash you with a hammer. I wanted to convey the metal but still keep it filthy being that it is powered by fire there would have to be soot and filth on it.

You shade metallics the same way you shade anything else. With a darker colour in the creases ") For this monster of a construct I would probably go with some half water half brown ink with a touch of black ink and "blackline" all the crevices and rivets etc. Take a fine liner brush and trace all the cracks you want dark, touch the brush to a paper towel after picking up the ink so it doesn't release too much ink to the mini and pool up or run anywhere. G'luck, I really like this mini.

Thanks. I actually tried using three different metals, I guess it is most obvious on the band of gold around the hammer head with the copper buttons. How do you shade with metallics?

Cool looking metals, but they would look much deeper with more shading around the studs and such :D Bet that hammer would hurt.
