Genestealer Patriarch / Tyranid Broodlord

Here's an OOP GW figure from the early 90's I've had sitting in a dusty drawer for years, painted for a competition over at the Relicnews Warhammer 40K Painting & Modeling Forum. I was aiming for a combination of the old-school blue/purple Genestealer color scheme and the newer GW Hive Fleet Leviathan style. The purple skin is much lighter in tone than the older scheme, worked up to a significant amount of grey/white, whereas the chitin armor color is a dark indigo shade worked up to mid-blue highlights. The claws and spines are painted in a striated pattern worked out from bone to a greyish shade and then back towards the body in a darker reddish-brown stripes. Although somewhat subdued in the pictures, the tongue is a vivid reddish-pink and the eyes are a glowing yellow color. I'm imagining the figure as prowling a recent battlefield with empty shell casings and blood spatters all over, pausing a moment to taste some blood off its fingertips. Although the backstory behind the Genestealer Patriarch is different from the newer Tyranid Broodlord, I think this 14+ year-old figure has a lot more "personality" and would make an excellent substitute. Comments and constructive criticism appreciated!

I just returned from the Chicago Golden Demon competition where I'm happy to say that this guy received an honorable mention and was in the top 5 against some amazingly painted figures. I'm very happy and I was to thank folks for their support. @ frenchkid - The crystals were one of the things I discussed with the judges and I think I might have lessened my rank by putting in striations as opposed to leaving them cleanly blended. I definitely can see where you're coming from in that regard.

Ugh, what an ugly customer. It's a testament to your skill that you made that guy look great. You shading and highlights are great, the crystals are a nie touch too. Good work with that nasty 'nid.
