NOT NORMAL! Great painting, but I would wash all the armor with a near-black color before highlighting. Then, the deepest recesses would look darker than, say, the side of his leg. A minor point, but it will really bring out your excellent highlights. As for your conversion...should we ever meet in battle, I'll let my army know not to p1ss off your Commander .
Wicked looking mini, great looking base, paintjob, but I have to agree with everyone else here bud, " That huge chest shield has to go, it just takes away from the mini way to me plus its just mot practical looking " , but like I said, everything else looks great on him.
