I like what you've done here. Organic colors like this are hard to blend but you've pulled this off very well. The only thing that I think needs improving is the "goopy" look to use your phrase. It looks dry. This thing has exposed muscle fiber and is sitting on top of a mass of bio-organic yuck. I think a coat of glossy varnish on the appropriate areas would really help to push the icky effect.
