The base needs to be different, needs more colors and textures, I also believe that if dont base the edges and just paint them in a dark nuetral color the whole model looks much cleaner.
The thing that stands out most is the 'texture' of the paint, you have the areas cleanly painted but by thinning your paint and using more layering you will get a much smoother finish. I would also recommend using a matt varnish, Testors Dullcote or Humbrol Matt Varnish seem to be the most popular...god luck with the future
