Thank you Theomar Pius! The roof starts as a broom. I separate the straw into sections and wrap with thread soaked in glue to form thatch bundles. (see bundle ends under the roof) Then cut in sections and apply to the roof. Then after these are dry I hand place a single layer of straw over these bundles leaving spaces for thatch deterioration. Gable ends are straw bundles bound with thread (same as under layer). Then add washes, wiping off of paint, dry brushing etc. It is slow going- but the results are rewarding. I found if you soak the moss in watery glue and apply and spread it out and shape it with a gazillion straight pins it can be effective. Thank you for your advice! Took photos outside- but Florida sun even in the evening is fading out photos! I will try at dawn next or work with camera settings!
Just curious as to what you used for the roof?
Smaller details look good, like the tie-downs and the barrell.
As for the color, try shooting in natural light, and not with a flash. Makes all the difference, plus it gets you outside after a long project!
