Veteran Brother Gabriel

Long time member of the Scythes of the Emperor. I chose an inversion of the GW livery for the challenge it presents but also as a way to mark the passing of near on 900 members of the chapter as they fought Hivefleet Kraken. It is a rare but known event when chapters strike original colors and emerge anew as a living testament to their fallen. So I chose to do so, besides, all black with Yellow trim just looks odd, chuckle. Gabriel has been thumping various big objects for at least three years now, and is one of my more popular characters.

Thanks guys, appreciate the feedback. I paint Sunburst Yellow first, over a spray white basecoat. The yellow is treated with a light orange wash, then a specifically placed chestnut wash and then a Brown wash in crevices and areas subject to dirt (boots). I usually paint the black before all the washes. This allows me to make the lines very crisp. Highlighting is done with Sunburst yellow mixed upwards with Bleached Bone, I find white bleaches the yellow out far too much.

I would like to make a statement...I hate painting yellow and red, but you seem to have made one of those look really good here. I would ask though, did you basecoat it white and then add the black after the yellow? Or did you base it black, paint over your yellow with white then paint the yellow on after the black?

Love your yellow, being an Imperial Fists player and (crap) painter I perfectly know what a bitch this color can be. How did you make it so "solid"?
