There's a lot of really good stuff on this guy, you shouldn't feel too disappointed. The use of rust is sensible, and the different varnish textures help make him look that bit more disturbingly real. There's a good sense of movement in the sculpture to begin with, but your painting and use of basing materials have really emphasised that. I'd say this is a pretty good job.
