This guy isn't painted badly at all, it's just that I don't get a sense of scale from this piece which I think is important with something that represents such a large reality. I'm thinking that to fool the eye into thinking this is as big as it should be, it'd need to have much deeper shadows in the recesses and a more well-defined light source. For instance if the light were coming from above the bottom part attached to the base post should be almost black because of the depth of shadow something this size would cast. Just my thoughts...hope they are found constructive.
