Hi all,
This is my second mini ever painted and my first blending experience....
Thanks in advance for your comments to help me improving my next minis.
That's a nice clean start, good work, especially for the second time ever! Are those really bows on his hat?! I would say that to improve it, you could take the highlights up a bit further, and make the shadows (e.g., under the folds of the robe) deeper with some careful glazes, it would help differentiate different areas more. I think the clothes and skin need this treatment the most. The problem with photos is that they can reduce the contrast a lot, so you need to compensate for this quite a bit in your painting. The sword could benefit from a wash of black or blue (or maybe very dark green to match the robe?) to make it a bit less flat. Another thing you could do to make more of an impression is have a more interesting base- the current one is rather boring and untidy and detracts from the neatness of the rest of the model, which is a shame. Some people ruthlessly mark down a "sub-standard" base here, regardless of the quality of the paint-job. It took me a little while to accept this myself, but it does make all the difference in the end. Hope this helps- I'm sure that with this start you'll become a great painter!
