Two easiest ways too improve: Read the photography articles on this site - they should help a lot. And, post WIP pics in the appropriate section of the forums. It will help familiarize you with taking these pictures better and give you quick feedback about your painting.
The back needs more definition - perhaps a dark brown ink wash.
