Ice Cave Diorama
This is my latest project. This started out as a test project to learn about woodworking and simple circuitry. Along with normal paint procedures that you are all more than familiar with, I actually carved my own oak base. After using a Dremel tool to carve out the electrical path, I used an ocean blue stain on the base. All of the lighting is high-powered LEDs, powered by a 9 volt AC/DC converter. The interesting thing about the crystals over the LEDs is that they aren't just simply blue LEDs. I used a technique I like to call "Light Shading". That is that the tall crystals in the back are lit by BLUE LEDs flanked by PURPLE LEDs. Combined with the blue, the purple doesn't look purple at all, but gives it a more shadowed look. In the front, the crystals are lit by BLUE LEDs paired with WHITE LEDs. This gave the whole scene a lot more depth for the 7 inches it actually had. These pics don't do the lighting effects justice at all. This is seriously the coolest nightlight ever!
