Sicilian Hoplite (V century B.C.)
Here it is a Sicilian Hoplite, during the victorious war aganst Athene. The sicilian poleis stood with Sparta against Athene during the Peloponnesiac wars. This Hoplite shows the colour scheme of AKRAGAS (todays Agrigento) and also the city's symbol (a cancer) on the shield(oplon). The sicilian poleis were the most illustrious centres of the greek culture in the mediterranean, protagonists in victorious wars aganst the Carthaginians and the greeks of motherland. Other poleis were Syracuse, Naxos, Tauromenium(taormina), Zancle(Messina), Leontinoi(Lentini), Gelas, Katane(Catania) and many others. Akragas colour scheme: black tunic, red pteruges(inguinal fringes in leather or pressed linen) and a bronze cuirass and shield with a thracian helmet with a crest. This model can be painted in many athers colour schemes and city's symbols. For this pourpose a vast repertoire coming from the coins of the greek cities of Sicily.
