Looted Ork Fighta kitbash
Based on a "HobbyCraft" kit of a "USN Blue Angels" F8F-1 plane which I bought cheap :P Now the idea behind this is that it's a PDF craft that's been shot down and looted (As it's too refined and smooth for Ork construction) Note the damage going from the rudder across to the Port (Left) wing. I also added a few crude orky repairs - the most notable being the entire starboard (right) Elevator (Flap). During the WIP stages I wanted to have an open cockpit with an ork pilot, but as I had no orks I had to start converting without a guide - then when I received a few ork bits from Undave ( Thanks very much matey :D ) I realised that the cockpit was too narrow to accommodate him! :( So that ork is being kept for later use in another project :P I had to then construct a closed cockpit to "hide" the pilot - the kit came with a clear plastic canopy, but I didn't feel it looked right, so I used plasticard and thin plastic to create a more irregular and angular one. There are also a few greenstuffed ork icons, such as the skull and lightning bolts. The wing autocannon are entirely scratchbuilt from round sprue, and and other weapons (Bomb and missiles) are attached by magnets, so can be removed or swapped with other systems during play. Painting was fiddly, as I wanted to get decent checks on the nose cone - which turned out quite well, and D-day stripes on the fuselage and wings. The stripes were acheived by the simple expedient of masking tape strips cut to size. The majority of time was spent getting these to look right, and then the rest with adding chips and weathering to the leading edges and damaged areas of the craft. :)
