Love this mini. Hope to find time to paint it someday. Like very much the colours you've chosen, and the "face" finish. Anyway, I have to agree with treide: Base "damps" the whole.
A (humild) suggestion: If you don't want to spend much time with the bases, paint them black; specially in this case, with a whitish mini, a black base would outstand the dragon much better that that "zebra-like" one.
Anyway, there are a lot of easy and fun thecniques to get nice bases, just try.
I agree with you on the base Oracle. ...I hate how damn near everything has to have a base on it nowdays to get a good score. They take up too much space
yeah, guilty as charged, I am a lazy baser... and need to find more fun in that. Painting the figures is so much fun for me that I want to start a new one as soon as I finish a figure rather than spend lots of time on a base and with 2000 vintage minis to paint...
