I figured the large blank areas on the swords will give me a chance to try some "heated metal" blending - white hot edges fading back to a cherry red at the back of the blade. I think I'll attempt a "Balrog" kind of thing on the skin - black on the raised areas with yellow/orange in the recesses. What do y'all think?
