pirate ship aka HMS Victory
This is a 1/1200 scale GHQ HMS Victory 100-gun ship-of-the-line for Napoleonic naval wargames. My brother-in-law wanted me to build & paint it for him as a pirate ship. It comes as a 13 piece pewter kit (+some extra boats & anchors). I removed the lower masts below the bottom sails as the pewter isn't stiff enough to keep the masts straight. I used toothpicks, chucked into a motor tool & turned down to size with sandpaper, to make new lower masts. I made an entire new bowsprit, bowsprit yards & boomkins (the small booms below the bowsprit) the same way. I painted it in acrylics & then the hard work began. I made all the rigging out of copper wire, painting each piece (266 of them, not counting the bands around the lower masts & the gammoning that holds the bowsprit down) before gluing them on. The base is styrene sheet with greenstuff waves. Definitely not a weekend project, I've got around 100 hours in this model. In return my brother-in-law gave me a massive fleet of ships, nice payment for a project I thoroughly enjoyed.
