You are right with the irises but the eyeballs are smaller in reality. The flashlight has brightened up the skin above the eyes too much - that's why he looks this way. :)
The painting looks alright but the main issue here is that you need to make the whites smaller and the irises larger. He looks more then surprised! Sven
