It's an interesting concept, but I admittedly don't really get it overall, and the paint is literally caked on there... Try really thinning your paints, and blending a lot more since it's such a large piece.
I think the painting needs to be smoother and blended for it to give the right effect. Better than that would be to make them from glass or use some other effect to make it shiny.
