...ok. Not a bad job for a first mini, but there are a few areas you can improve that will help the overall look. Firstly, while your paint is very neat (yay!), the paint itself looks patchy (boo!). You can counteract this by thinning your paints and using several layers to build up colour. This should give you a solid, smooth coat if you do it right. Secondly, basing - even if it's just a bit of basing sand thrown on the base and given a quick lick of paint (the paint part is important), it'll make the mini look more finished and I guarantee you'll get a better score. Thirdly, washes - make a wash by adding a darker colour to your base coat (or use something like the new GW washes), then apply fairly generously to the part you want to shade, making sure it goes in the recesses, and allow to dry. It should give the mini more definition. Fourthly, highlighting - probably the easiest way to start highlighting is to try edge highlights. You see them a lot on space marines and they can look quite good if done carefully, which you should have no trouble with. Mix your base colour with white (or an appropriate lighter colour like space wolf grey, yellow, etc.) and dab a little up on your brush. Wipe any excess paint off on a rag, then run the side of the brush along the edges you want to highlight. Et voila! One much improved marine! :) You can find lots more advice if you look in the articles section on here, and you'll get more feedback if you post your work in the forums. Good luck!
