Agreed. This is very strong work for being one of your first projects. I can already see some subtleties that usually don't appear until you've been painting for awhile. Push the contrasts a bit more, and get some more clear definition between different areas (e.g., the leg and the items hanging off his belt, for example), and you'll be further than many who have been painting for years. :)
