Wolfen Brigade - Bysra the Shaman

My submission for the Wolfen Brigade. This is a group of Rackham Wolfen / Devourers being built and painted in a WIP thread I created named " Join a Rackham WIP - Free Minis ! " in September of 2009. I am hoping all of the nearly 30 Wolfen / Devourer figs will eventually make it into the gallery. This has been a very rewarding experience, on a number of levels. Thanks to all who have contributed, commented and critiqued. Chris Wheeler

Hello Chris- A pleasure to see new stuff from you. I agree with much of what DR said. Parts have strong identity and parts could use a bit more push. I like the colors and the job seems nice and neat but you've painted in lots of contrast on the skin with deeper shadows and left the NMM a bit flat. I do really like what you've done with the base, it's well done and not over the top. Kudos to you for putting together the whole project though- very generous of your time and minis. It's an 8.5 for me, so will round up.

Hi Chris: My pleasure to vote and a priviledge to be asked to comment. Ok I'm being honest here but you've done one of my "Pet Hates" with a Title & border around the pictures. As to the Wolfen himself I really like it and I think it's one of the best things I've seen you produce. It has one "Soft" area on the figure and that is the top of the staff in red and the skin. While the rest of the figure has a strong sense of reality/ believability the red doesn't immediatly convey the intent of what it supposed to be. In a similar vein I think that the flayed skin is too dark as if it had been partially tanned and that doesn't look quite right to me. The base is nice and well though out, not too much foilage and not over the top and dwarfing the figure. However it doesn't quite have the same strength of tone as the figure and as a result looks slightly "Soft & Fluffy" against what I can only describe as a Serious Hard Case. Perhaps some carefully placed tonal washes on the stonework would give the base a more weathered/aged and neglected look. So in voting I'm giving you an 8.8 M
