I think this model is really good for a first NMM attempt. I think you would have get better scores if the pic wasn't this enlarged. For the base I would recomment maybe a small piece of earth (half) and half watereffect. Add some tall grass to the earth and maybe a small rock or 2 (the model already comes with one).
