I recently had my favorite painter do a drow "hit squad" for me. Since she doesn't post here, I thought I would so that she could get some feedback. The miniatures were a mix of minis that were intended to be drow, normal elves, and even some figures that I thought would just make good drow. This is one that is part of the second category, a Reaper elven mini that I think made an interesting drow.

To quote the artist, "I think the guy is right about the red on the shield. But after doing so many I was starting to draw a blank on ideas. As for the flesh, I used black as the base, then drow flesh from Ral Partha, then lightened it up with cream mixed with the drow flesh for each layer by the wet blending technique. The faces have a total of 4 or 5 layers on them." It is worth noting that she did *14* drow minis for me all at once; there's only so far you can go with drow symbolism. Even I didn't want spide motifs on every single one.... :D

Do you have any idea how the Drow skin was done? I've been trying and I can't get it to look nearly this nice... any hints would be appreciated... This is a great mini overall, really looks Drowish :)

Great figure. Adding some kind of drow symbol or something to the shield would really have set it off, I think. Red would almost look like it was floating on the shield (a nifty effect if it's a magical symbol) and would balance out the greenish cloth.
