Dragonsreach, someone told that it was used when the opponent was too close to use the sword properly, so with the maneouver you could gain the sword range necessary to touch him.
A very complicated pose, initially very confusing to thet eye. It will be a pleasurable challenge to paint. Not 100% convinced that the pose would be one actually struck in sword combat, but am open to being proved wrong.
