Island of Blood Skaven Warlord
This was my first attempt at painting OSL. I think I did an okay job, but parts could be better. I tried to keep the OSL as real as possible, with raised edges blocking the light source from reaching areas behind it. I've seen models with OSL where the light source is simply a gradient that moves away from the source, with no thought to cast shadows. I've also seen lighting effects painted onto flames where the colors were brightest at the tip of the flame, and darkest at the base. It's my understanding that fire is hottest at the source of the burn, and as the flames move away from the point of burning, they cool off. Thus, I painted the flames so that they are brightest/hottest in the interior of the brazier, and cool down as they leap up. Please leave comments, especially if you have suggestions on how I can do better. This was a training exercise, and I'm looking to do another one, as I learned a lot while painting it. I want to go into my next training exercise armed with tips and tricks on how to improve my skills. Thanks for viewing.
