Not a bad attempt for a first one at all mate, looks like you got all the paint in the right places unlike my first lol. Firstly, dont be put off by scores. CMON is a harsh place. The score will reflect the mini itself as well as your paint skills and of course how well you photographed it (pics should be about 500 pixels wide minimum). A 6 on here is not as bad as it sounds. If you really want to get better come on over to the forums and share you work in the work in progress threads and or submission thread. Here you can get a proper critique as well as help and advice. Not many people will leave comments on gallery work. The forums and articles section will help you most. As well as regularly looking at the top 10 to see how the pros do it, you can learn more than you think by just observing and copying. ANyway as far as this mini goes, it looks pretty old, but its not bad. First thing to improve the piece would be a scenic base rather than a plain painted one. That will win you no marks on here. It appears to be glossy, not good. use matt varnish or gloss and then matt on top to kill the shine. all the colours are quite dark and kind of mingle together too much. aim for clearly painted areas and clear definition around edges to seperate the areas the colours you used are nice - i like the hair and the blue shoulder pads and it works with the cloak colour, although that is what is messy. aim for lighter colours in the areas that will receive most light, the outer part of the cloak is too similiar to the shadow area colour. Use dark lining to seperate all your areas - ie the base colour with some black in it, or use GW badab black wash thinned down over the shadow inner parts to create some seperation. Lastly always thin your paints looks a little thick in places. Hope that helps and come over to the forums. cheers.dfb
