I think that you can greatly improve the model if you highlight with two types of blue (e.g. ultramarine and lightning blue) instead of painting the borders.
Use a soft but big brush and really really really (I mean really :) little paint.
In general the paint looks quite thick and seems to fill some of the details. Did you use spray-can for the basecoat? Maybe you should.
