Thanks for your feedback. I will surely work on the metallics, and I'll give it a try and add more contrast (I've reduced it, because I thought it'd look too cartoonish). Anyway - it's good to get a fresh view on the mini. Thanks again.
I've read your request for comments so here's my thoughts on this. Technically it's not bad, but there are areas such as the metallics which don't look particularly smooth. I'd also suggest that due to the attempt at a softer colour scheme there is a lack of crisp highlights and clearly defined shadow tones in recesses which reduce the effect. Specifically the "flair" at the waist lacks strong separation from the rest of the figure. There's an old time painting practise which suggests that the lighting source for a figure shoud be regarded as being at 45 degrees above the horizontal and shining down from the right hand side (as viewed front on) this then allows for the painter to place shadows with greater effect on the areas of the figure out of direct line of the light. In this case it would mean that the left hand side of the figure would have deeper shade and softer highlights around the Breast area, Waist and Skirt as well as part of the face from the cheekbone down through the jawline to the neck. As a final though the "Doohicky" on the sword which seems to be painted as glowing needs to be taken up to white in the points to make the effect work.
I actually expected this mini to be rated a bit higher. Could I get some feedback? What's wrong with it? Is it the color theme that doesn't fit DE? Or is it technically mediocre? I don't get it, so I would really appreciate some comments to help me improve my painting skills.
