Thanks alfalasi. I'm currently painting a mini (an old Essex Miniatures wizard I still had hanging around) where I'm trying harder with shading washes. And it's looking OK so far.
good first attempt after being away so long! Keep at it and try out different techniques. use washes they also help create effects like shadows,and support others i.e. highlighting (i know they did for me!)
