Marneus Calgar

Marneus Calgar, the Chapter Master of the Ultramarines. I've been tempted to buy this miniature for a long time, but since I don't actively play 40K I managed to resist. Finally with the launch of the new Land Raider, I broke down and bought an army, and got this figure to round it out. I wanted to draw attention to his twin Powerfist/bolter weapons, since they are unique in the game universe. Also, I was trying to imply that they were glowing with heat or energy. The original banner pole on the backpack was snipped off and replaced with brass pins with plastic genestealer heads to top it off, to match his portrait. Marneus is after all the foremost expert in fighting Tyranids in the Imperium!

I enjoyed the Tyranid heads to match the portrait - I stole this idea from you for my own Marneus. I like the power fists, but will paint my version more traditionally. Personally, I think the only shortfalls are the base trim color, posts holding the heads, and the interior portion of the cape. Otherwise very nice piece. I appreciate the matching of the portriat...

Heat isn't the first impression because if it were, the finger tips and knuckles would be the hottest part, being the brightest. Well blended though. On the heads I suggest you cut out the tongues and make new ones that are drooping lazily. These look too animated for dead ones.
