Feel this is a massive step forward for me if you compare to the standard bearer in my gallery from 6 days ago. long way to go yet but improving every day. Thanks to all who gave hints and advice
Thin your paint is where I would start. Doing 3 or 4 thin coats will give yo a better result. You can always add more layer rather than take a layer away. Drill out you barrel on the Storm Bolter and always finish your base; it adds to the over all paint job.
My suggestions to you would be to think down your paints more, personally I use something close to the consistency of milk, though I know others who water it down further. If you use multiple layers of thinned down paint, you get a much smoother finish in the end. It does however take longer :).
This would also prevent the detail being covered up, as with the crux-like detail on his leg.
Also, when you are doing the extreme highlights, it looks like you are trying to paint them on with the tip of the brush. When learning, it is much easier to simply use the side of the brush and drag it along the end, which will also result in smoother highlights.
But, it's as they say, practice makes perfect and I am by no means perfect myself :). Keep at it and you'll get there one day!
Make the eyes like the gems on shoulder (who seem to be correct for that we can see on photo) ; make black holes on the gun (for the "exit of bullet" ; sorry for my poor english !) ; the cross and skull design on the leg can be better with metalic colors, or improve the non mettalic technic. Can be more careful on overflow.
