The jewels are cool and you tried eyes that's a start. GW Elven eyes are a PAIN in the kiester! try starting your chainmail out with Botgun instead of silver. Wash it with armor wash then highlight with silver. It won't have such a stark contrast then and give it more depth. I try to paint everything in this manner. Medium color, darker wash, lighter highlights. three different colors at least will really make stuff look real. try too keep the colors from being too different. A good rule of thumb is if you paint the colors beside one another and can't tell them apart at arms length but can close up, then they'll work. Damn, talkative tonight ain't I? Hope this will help.
