Good attempt: you need to go darker for your dark and lighter, almost to white if not all the way to it, for your lights. Smooth transitioning is key! If it's abrupt, it'll end up looking kinda bad. And you want a flat finish for it, too. Try Testor's Dullcote (if you can get it where you are!) after a gloss coat if you REALLY want to spray it with that gloss first. Or just go straight for the Testor's.
