Gandalf The Grey Wizard.
I wasn't planing on painting another grey wizard so soon after my last project but when I saw this sculpt, and more specifically, the perfect cast of this awesome Gandalf model I bought the blister pack right there and then! I wanted to try and paint this in a clean 'Eavy Metal style and kept going back to the Gandalf 'Eavy Metal Masterclass article (released a couple months ago) for reference. I also looked at a lot of stills and promo pics from both The Hobbit and LoTR. It was a lot of fun painting something that's this much smaller then the stuff I usually paint too. I swapped his staff out for the LoTR era staff, not that it needed to be changed but I liked the idea of some sort of small conversion to make it a bit different, I think I might like the LoTR staff with the exposed crystal a bit more too.. :) I painted this little guy in about 7 hours. The base was another fun, quick thing I decided to do after seeing a picture of Gandalf walking around in The Shire and decided to recreate a small Shire style cobbled path. There's a quick WIP post of this base here: http://www.stockholmwarpaint.com/post/75035935004 even though it really isn't anything that special. I imagine Gandalf visiting The Shire, leaving Glamdring in his room at the Inn perhaps and taking a stroll through the Shire taking it all in, letting go of his worries for just a minute as he continues along the little road. This was a lot of fun and I learned a lot painting this one. Thanks for taking the time to check this out.. if you’ve got any comments or questions don’t hesitate to post them!
