7.5. When painting minis because we work at such a small scale we have to , a must use a huge gradation of contrast. I'm talking bout contrast between light and shadows, highlights and shades etc. so either add more highlights and add them to the most raised parts layering them on like shingles on roofs overlapping and each time covering a smaller surface area . It's a great paintjob in the fact it's clean tidy Eric but looks unfinished. What I do is start very light and work in reverse layering in shades over and over very thinned down applications and the more I layer with the same color the more intense the shadow gets. I won't move onto another lighter color until the previous color is applied over and over until it intensifies e.g. A light green base color and very diluted purple shading over and over until it goes from a slight tint to actual dark purple then ill move to the next very diluted color( purple with a smidgen of black) and over and over now just in the deepest recesses where overhead light won't hit then totally black used like underneath the groin. This is termed zenithal lighting and that means the darkest place are blended with shade all the way down to black and highlights all the way up to white added to the highlight colors. REMEBER very diluted with Lahmian medium and water weather it's highlight or shade your blending through transparencies.check out my ork storm boys you'll see what I mean by going lighter from the beginning so when you do the shading it's instant highlight appearance when we lay in the shadows this makes the mini pop and I didn't even get to the highlights at this point so I
Imagine how much popping is going on when done . My final steps when I paint is let's take the storm boys I've done I will use a glaze(every thing will blend further now at this ending step ) ill use a green/yellow glaze mix with slot of water/ Lahmian medium. And this will make everything share the glaze color(both highlights a d shades will have now the same color derivative) REMEBER a glaze is what I use for everything (I'm talking about weather a shade / highlight/ or ending "glaze") this refers to the specific consistancy I use to get the smooth effects that pop so well. As I said ho look at the Stormboys I've done. And see after reading this if it makes more sense. Any other questions ill be glad to help your painting is very neat and clean IMHO just have to add a little more.. A few tweaks to it. Your not changing anything UOUR just adding some layers. The reupload the image and guarantee you'll see a difference. Here's my gmail if you would like to email me your next mini stage by stage and ill help you and give feedback while your painting it. I've fine this for about 30 diff people on the site and they've all improved. I'm always round bud.
