Lord Commander Sarpedon, Soul Drinkers Chapter

I constructed this miniature 2 years ago using 8 Genestealer arms and a Space Marine Librarian. Having bought the Librarian, my first challenge in the making of this miniature was to remove the metal legs and pelvis yet retain the tabbard and tail plate armour. Much filing took place with perfect results - I had created an insertion point for 8 legs whilst retaining the full tabbard in good condition as well as the armour covering his rear. The base is my depiction of the Graveyard scene with additional 'Hell'. I built it using slate, a penitent engine torso, some tomb stones, skulls and an insane skeleton! Having already decided upon the pose I needed to bend the metal, file the tops of the 'legs' to geometrically fit the socket I had created and positioned all of this in order to fit the graveyard base I had already constructed! I also removed the Aquila from the crozius and attached it onto the backpack as an Imperial backdrop to his head. The paint work consists of circa 30 thin layers per panel of Imperial Purple (armour), Hormagaunt Purple/Brown/Black mix on his legs with Balor Brown talons. By far the hardest part of the paint-job was the Soulspear (how do I depict a Blackhole?): The Spear is actually some finecast sprue filed down to fit. The merging of a metallic hilt to, basically a high gloss black spear was intrinsically tricky. I feel overall that I have done Sarpedon justice and as I'm a huge fan of The Soul Drinkers I truly hope that I have! I hope you comment and for more please visit my website: www.singularity1.co.uk
