Dr. Felix von Strossburg

A miniature that a friend of mine asked me to repaint. It was difficult for me to paint something that was to look truly black without keeping it flat primer. This was also my first nmm attempt on the sword....how did it come out? Let me know, pretty please.

For a first attempt at faux metal, you've done quite well; the shine lightens towards the tip of the blade, as would be expected given the blade position. If you were to try again, you'd want the upper half ("dorsal")of the sword blade lighter overall than the lower half ("ventral"), and the back of the blade, given the tilt of the sword, would be lighter still; the "dorsal" half lightest of all, the "ventral" half about as light as the "dorsal" half of the front. That's your base colors; then highlight from there. I like how you did the runes, but overall they look a bit light. There should be light and dark areas, just as any other metal piece. The black clothing came out well; like me, you chose to highlight with greys of various sorts. In some places the highlights look a bit too light, and don't really blend well; try a more gradual transition. Some might comment about the face not being well defined, but I like it; the deep eye sockets work very well and give the piece a sinister flavor you might not get had the eyes been done more "realistically".
