Raistlin

This is a comparison shot between one of my latest minis, a Reaper Templar, and a scratchbuilt Raistlin I did almost 20 years ago. Back then, there was just no way to get fantasy miniatures around here, so I took it to myself to sculpt my own using plastiscene or, whenever possible, Green Stuff. This one was sculpted out of plastiscene, inspired on the illustrations on one of those old "Make your Own Adventure" D&D books (the ones were you would read a page, then roll a dice and jump to another page to keep reading depending on the result of the encounter). The plastiscene figure was then used to make a plaster mold, onto wich I poured molten lead. As you can tell, there's not much amount of detail, due to the crude casting, and it was painted in oils, and sealed with regular nail varnish. I admit it is not much to look at, these days, but it was a start.

This is great! I have the same mini, and mine never comes out nearly that good! (i keep stripping the paint and starting over, i must have painted the same mini 3 times!) Amsome free hand on the robe, and the face is amazing.

Nice, the first one too :) I've heard of the plasticene method being used for terrain - reliefs on temples etc. - but never an actual mini, even a large one like this.

Heh, well, Vince, we are talking 20 years between the Raistlin and the Templar, so, any improvement in my painting skill can be described anyway but dramatic. It has, indeed, been a long and bumpy road ;)
