Nice, ruggedized troops. ALways did like the Stormtroopers, from the original beret-wearing ones to the new Kasrkin. You don't need to worry about retiring these, though - Stormtroopers are still available and, in addition, you can have the carapace armor on normal troops if I remember right, if you take the right Doctrine (there's one that basically means your troops are higher tech than the norm). I think there's even a Doctrine that allows for better close-combat, which this particular unit appears to be.
