Mantis Warrior
This is my first true sculpt (at least with green stuff). I did this for a sculpting showcase on www.miniature-painting.net (Visions in Putty #6). The mini is inspired by a D&D ice devil, but I also incorporated elements from real-world insects. The sculpt was built on a scratch-made armature. Most of my problems with the sculpt turned out to be caused by problems with the armature, so I wish I would have spent more time getting that right first. For tools, I used dental tools, tweezers, an exacto knife, and an old pencil with a bent needle stuck into the eraser. The needle pencil and the dental burnishers turned out to be my most-used tools. I learned a lot about sculpting on this project. Keeping the tools and fingers wet is very important, as is working in small sections an hour or so at a time so you don't smudge completed work. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with how it came out. I expected it to look much worse based on past experience playing around with Super Sculpey. I hope you all like it. Regards, Brett King
