LOTR Gil-Galad with shield on sculpted base By James

This was a mini that went way beyond the original plan :-) Ever since my wife gave me this fantastic LOTR book with tremendous pics of all the costumes, armor and weapons of the LOTR movies, I wanted to do more of the Heroes of the Shadow and flame series. There were many wonderful pictures of Gil-Galad and his shield, so I thought I would encorporate that into this miniature. All of the freehand scroll work is taken from this book. It was a real challenge to work to that scale/detail, but it was all worthwhile in the end. The shield was made of sculpey and green stuff, while the base is polymer clay. I also used a very different color combination for my golds, since the book made a major deal out of the difference in the color of the elves' armor from the first age to the War of the Ring era. This time, Snakebite Leather and Bubonic Brown were the primary mixture. For the War of the Ring era elves (posted a few months back on CMON), I had used Snakebite with Scorched Brown and Golden Yellow. That gave them more of a reddish feel, where Gil-Gilad is supposed to be more greenish in his golds. The sword was even nastier, since the sculpting of it was a little weird. I should have just filed down the scroll work they tried to put on it, and went from there. It took much longer for me to fight against the out of place lumps! Now it's on to Isildur :-)

You are well skilled! Nice shield and details on clothes, well shaded armour and interesting base. Wonderful job! Please take a look on my Gil-galad, I made him a shield too.
