Umber Hulk
I began painting this with some Reaper Dark Highlight just to completely base coat the mini, before painting Skrag brown all over it. Finally, I mixed 50% Skrag brown with 50% Averland sunset, to create a highlight. I stipled over the pitted areas and brushed the high points of his armor. I painted his mandibles Averland Sunset, used Agrax Earthshade, and then highlighted with Averland Sunset followed by Vallejo Game Color Sun Yellow. I added Agrax Earthshade to the pitted areas on his armor plates to try and bring them out more before making a very thin mix of Vallejo Model Colour Dark Prussian Blue, and lined the plates with it to give some iridescence to his insect body, followed by Vallejo game green ink, grinned down quite a bit to add more to this effect. Mixing green and yellow ink and some Lahmian medium, I then made a glaze and rubbed it all over the plates before lining the plates with Vallejo game color black and Dryad Bark mixed together. Ok his fleshy areas, I mixed half Tuskgor Fur and Bugman’s Golow to paint the fleshy areas and book lungs, then made an ink wash of green, blue, and brown ink mixed with Lahmian medium. The base is my typical Army Painter Dark Stone, Uniform Gray, and Ash Gray, bit I added some Texture Paint, Astrogranite Devris drybrushed with Tyrant Skull so he appears to be in a dark, rocky cave. His eyes, I painted Averland Sunset, then I used some green ink to give a glowing effect, as this monster can hypnotize people. This turned out to be a bit much, and I instead coated it with two layers of Ballejo game color Sun Yellow. Please feel free to give me some advice on how to do better!
