This is one of the very first figs I painted (4th or 5th) and I can validate all your points. I am emboldened with the idea of stripping this fig and repainting it, as it is one of my favorite minis and my skills have progressed beyond this painting example. Thanks for the comments.
Dark lining (especailly between the chainmail and the tabberd) would help. Also, a few more highlights or a different color on the boots would help to break up all the grey.
