Space Marine Scout /w bolter
Well, here is the first scout for the scout squad in my army... I've decided that the brighter blue will look better, overall. This was my first attempt at layering highlights, and it went allright.. though i think the layers need to be more drastic, as you can really only see the brightest highlight in the pictures. I''m quite unhappy with the face... the skin tones didn't turn out very good (used GW bronzed flesh.. thinking of trying elf flesh instead)... and i love the sculpt on these figures.. but the eyes are very poorly sculpted.. one side of the face "droops" and the eye is very hard to distinguish from the rest.. this made it really hard to paint the pupil in. I left the bolter casing black, for the time being... red breaks the scheme up too much, I think.. I also chose not to highlight it, since I've seen very few good looking black highlights.. I may come back later with some very dark dark grey to highlight it, but not yet.. All of my marines have black hair, so you can only see the detail on the top, where it was drybrushed with varying shades of grey. Overall.. I like it, but of course the camera really brings out all of the flaws and makes it look pretty crappy -_- This is the 5th mini that I have completed... constructive criticism welcome...
