I am a long time army painter looking to improve my skills. Many techniques (the ones they tell you about in the instrutional books) I have tried and can usually get good effects. I am interested in learning the more advanced techniques to mini painting i.e. lighting effects, wood, marble, and various textures, advanced highlighting and shading. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

Well it looks to me that you've got the basics of painting under control. The first steps to improving are to think on the instructional books done by GW and take tham a stage further. For example: If you normally do 3 paint levels try painting up to 5 or 6 levels of paints for shade, intermediate shade, main, intermediate main and highlight colours. Each one being smaller coverage than the last. Please feel free to PM me if you want a clearer explanation. :)
